Mini Handball Jamboree

More than 40 grade 3, 4, 5 & 6 students from Onoway Elementary School attended the annual Mini Handball Jamboree in Mayerthorpe on Saturday, April 9th. The students were divided onto teams with players from Sangudo, Mayerthorpe, Whitecourt and Onoway. Teams played a total of three games and competed in challenges, including the infamous “Team Cheer” competition. Teams were awarded points for sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, team spirit and game play.

This year, the winning grade 3/4 team was the Dragons which included two players from Onoway – George and Reese. In the grade 5/6 category, the winning team was the Panthers which included Elora, Lucas, Maygan and Wyatt from OES.

The Jamboree was a huge success thanks to the organizers, Melody Moon and Paige Duplessie, and the help of numerous volunteers, several of whom came from Onoway. Thank you to the student volunteers from Onoway High School (Cole, Emily, Paige and Jaillean), the Gr. 7 volunteers from OES (Caitilin, Camryn, Madison, Allyson, Jaiden and Jenelle) and the staff and parent volunteers from OES.

Congratulations to all the OES players for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, fair play and team work!
