From the Principal

Dear OES families,

On behalf of our staff, I want to thank you for a wonderful year and wish you all a restful and relaxing summer break. We have started our planning for the 2019-2020 school year and want to take this opportunity to let you know of a few exciting additions and changes for the upcoming year. First, we welcome Ms. Carling Bassarab to our OES team as a grade six teacher. Carling comes to us from Harry Gray School in Valleyview. We also welcome Ambre Doerkson as our Success Coach. Ambre joins us to support the Mental Health Capacity Building Expansion Project awarded to Onoway and area. This is a joint project with Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. With a mandate to support mental health promotion and prevention, Ambre will be working with our kids and families, staff and community to focus on the importance of health and wellness. With this additional support, we have adjusted our minutes in the timetable so that our morning recess and lunch times are longer, providing kids with a chance to play, socialize and develop social and emotional skills. We will also be including nutritional and wellness breaks at the beginning and toward the end of day. Keep this in mind when packing your children’s lunches, as they will have the chance to recharge and refuel at the beginning of the day as well.

At OES we will continue to work together to do our very best to support all kids. We want to make sure all kids feel like they belong, that they are valued, and they are WONDERS.

This year, we will focus on helping all of our kids to know their strengths and to understand how their web becomes stronger with every string their anchors provide for them. Identifying these strings and providing all kids with the opportunity to share their strengths and values, we help them achieve great things.

We always want to encourage our families to volunteer here at the school, or for extra curricular events. Our school requires a criminal record check, which can be completed for free with the volunteer letter available on our website. Please ensure that you take the time to request this so that our kids can benefit from your time and support here at school.

As a reminder there is one NGPS fee (technology) for the 19.20 school year which is $30 for gr 1-7 and $15 for kindergarten. Payment can be made by School Cash Online.Visit our website for the link. We would like to extend an invitation to all families to join us on Wednesday, September 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for What’s The Scoop- meet the teacher event. OES classrooms will be open for a part of this evening for your kids to show you their school.

We are so excited to embark on another incredible year of growth and we look forward to welcoming all students to OES.

Sincerely,

Jody Beck

Principal
